A Roman (AD c. 80-120), probably, Polden Hill brooch: The copper alloy brooch is incomplete with the wings and a short portion of the bow remaining. The wings are semi-cylindrical, both of which are incomplete. The axis bar, spring and pin are all missing. The bowhead is hump-like in profile and is undecorated. The bow is sub oval in section, and tapers to a blunt, broken edge. There is a trace of the start of the catchplate near the break. The surface of the brooch has an incomplete mid grey-green patina and is slightly abraded. It measures 28.95mm long, 10.84mm wide across the wings and weighs 5.48g.
The brooch is probably a Polden Hill type. Bayley and Butcher (2004:160) comment that the distribution of Polden Hill brooches are concentrated in the West Midlands and suggest they date to AD80 to 120.
