A late medieval - early post medieval lead alloy thumb rest from a tankard. This is a twin-ball thumb piece from a tankard. There are two balls attached to a penannular section that would attach to the lid of a tankard. There are casting seams around the circumference of the balls.
Tankards with similar thumb pieces date from the late 14th - 16th century (Hornsby, P., Weinstein, R. and Homer, R. 1989:52,63).
