A Medieval copper-alloy strap fitting for the suspension of a horse harness pendant.
The central portion of the mount comprises a triangular-sectioned, T-shaped bar. The lower end of the vertical part of this bar bifurcates, terminating in a pair of perforated lugs, which are separated by a gap, across which extends an iron axis bar. At both the right- and left-hand ends of the horizontal arm, there is a rounded lobe with central rivet hole, narrow waist on its inner side and knop on its outer. Traces of gilding can be seen on the corroded surfaces of the piece.
Length: 28.9mm; height/width: 13.6mm; thickness: 5.4mm. Weight: 4.84g.
A stylistically similar hanger, attached to a shield-shaped pendant, is illustrated by Steven Ashley (2002: fig. 13, no. 105). Such pieces date from the 13th to 14th century.
