A complete unifaced lead or lead alloy Token of the Late Medieval to Post Medieval period, circa AD 1400 - AD 1800.
The token is sub circular in plan and chevron shaped in cross section, due to a bend or fold. The obverse depicts a probable six petalled flower made up of raised lines in six lozenge shapes surrounding a probable central pellet (Powell Type: 1). The reverse is undecorated.
The token measures 16.9 mm in diameter and is 2.6 mm and weighs 4.0 g.
The token is a mid grey in colour with an even patina. Abrasion caused by movement whilst within the plough soil has resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail.
Lead tokens are a frequently occurring find, with a variety of different designs. Tokens like this, were used as tallies or as replacement low denomination coinage during the Medieval and Post Medieval periods. Other examples of this type of token have been recorded on the Database, including WMID-4B55A9 and WMID-DE2DF4.
