An incomplete Medieval (1250-1450) copper alloy folding strap clasp, missing its plate. The frame has slightly convex sides with a low relief transverse ridge at each outer corner. A separate copper alloy sheet roller remains intact surrounding the folding end. The strap bar is recessed for the plate.
The frame measures 15.6mm x 16.2mm (internal dimensions c.13mm x 10mm), is 4.0mm thick and weighs 1.62g. Several similar examples of folding strap clasps from London are illustrated in Egan and Pritchard (1991), p.118-9, figs.77-8.
