Incomplete enamel inlaid copper alloy pointed-oval mount, probably from a hanging bowl, rather more than half surviving. The break is not recent. Small amounts of inlay remain. The design is in enamel, a six-strand spiral arranged clockwise, yellow, blue and red. The three more complete strands broaden out to straight terminals, beyond which are three ovoid cells (one with red enamel). The thickness of the metal is fairly consistent but increases at the extant pointed end. The front surface is flat except at this end, while the reverse is gently convex. There is no evidence for the method of attachment.
Extant length 40mm. Estimated length c.60mm. Width 28mm. Thickness 2.8 - 5.7mm. Weight 19.80g.
This oval form is very unusual, cf. a hook-mount from Faversham, Kent (Bruce Mitford 2005, cat. no. 39; Brenan 1991, cat. no. 26 ), and no good parallel has been noted for the design. The convex reverse suggests that, if this is a vessel mount, it must have been set on the interior. Late 6th - 7th century.
