Description: A gold finger ring of medieval date. The ring has a drop shape plan, with the tip forming a pointed bezel which is set with a blue glass or sapphire cabochon. In plan the cabochon is rectangular and in profile it is convex. Across the bezel the section is rectangular with rounded corners. The interior edges of the bezel are slightly bevelled. The hoop is a D-shape in section. The surface of the finger ring has a matte yellow colour. On the interior there are subtle transverse striations, as well as fine scratches. The exterior surface is smooth with fine scratches from use and perhaps the plough.

Notes:
Discussion: This form of finger ring, known as a stirrup-shaped finger ring was popular during the 13th century however the date range can stretch from c.1150-c.1500 (Egan and Pritchard, 2002:326). Other examples which have been treasure cases include 2005 T394, 2004 T209, 2004 T182, 2004 T376 and 2004 T304.

Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act (1996).
