A complete and worn post-Medieval copper-alloy double-sided coin weight for a Hungarian dukat (or ducat) dating (1585).
The object is flat. One side depicts a standing figure of St. Ladislaus holding an orb in the right hand and an axe in the left hand. H and D at sides (Hungarian dukat).
The other side depicts a raised hand indicating Antwerp with 8 and 5 at sides (date of 1585). C and I at sides below indicate maker: Cornelis (Cornelius) Janssen, fl. 1564-1604.
This weight has a shiny green patina. The sides are straight (not bevelled or filed).
Length: 16.4mm; width: 15.8mm; thickness: 1.9mm. Weight: 3.15g. (48.8 grains).
A similar example can be found in Withers and Withers 1995: 23.
The hand indicates that it was produced in the Low Countries at Antwerp (Withers and Withers 1995: 60).
