A late Iron Age silver (or billon) unit of the East Wiltshire ('Vale of Pewsey') group, an early uninscribed southern silver 'Danebury' type (BMC 604-605) or Rudd's 'Potterne Moon Head' (ABC 2131), dating from c. 50-35 BC. The silver may have a high copper content (known as 'billon') as this ore is evident in some places and the coin does not look 'silvered'. This is a rare coin however a small number of other examples have been recorded on this database, including WILT-108507, WILT-10E916 and BERK-158106.
Notes:
Archaeological and numismatic evidence suggests the existance of a small tribe centred around the Vale of Pewsey in East Wiltshire, later subsumed by a larger tribe, probably the Dobunni
This has been noted as an interesting find by the recorder.
