An incomplete mirror case of medieval date. Only one half of the mirror case survives which is circular with a raised rim around the circumference. A double lug hinge projects from one edge of the case and a looped catch projecting from the opposite edge which would have acted as a catch to keep the two halves of the case together. The interior of the remaining case is missing any trace of the original mirror. The case is undecorated.
The metal has a mid-green patina and is worn. The mirror case is 38.9mm long from hinge to catch, 29.3mm in diameter, 3.8mm thick and weighs 8.8g.
Similar examples have been recorded on the PAS database as: SWYOR-0365A4, WILT-36955B and DENO-824AE3. Parallels are also illustrated in Egan and Pritchard (2002), p.362, fig.241 in which it is stated that robust cast copper alloy mirror cases of this type were mass-produced throughout the medieval period.
