Fragment of a medieval to post-medieval sheet copper alloy mount, both ends broken. One edge is scalloped and engraved with transverse and oblique lines depicting highly stylised scallop shells. The other edge is straight. A line of short oblique lines runs along the latter. Two longitudinal rows of punched dots are flanked by lines. One rivet or attachment hole lies near the straight edge. Cf. an example from Suffolk (SF-E01767). The scalloped edge is similar to those found on some scabbard chapes, e.g. de Reuch 1991, 24, third row down, second from left. Extant length 19mm. Width 20.2mm. Thickness 0.4mm. 16th century.
