Medieval copper-alloy book clasp of Howsam type A.1.1. The strapend sub-triangular in form and rectangular in section. It is formed of a central frame with two sheets attached with rivets at the upper edge and terminates with a rounded projection which has a D shaped cross section and a central circular hole. Projecting from th outer edge is a rectangualr plate, with a rounded end, which has a small circular hole in its centre.
Length 45mm, width 20mm, thickness 4mm, weight 11.34g.
The object is very similar, but without the hinges, to figs 720 and 726, page 101 Egan, G. and Pritchard, F. Dress accessories which are dated to the late medieval period.
