An incomplete copper alloy Medieval mount, probably from a book and dating to the 14th century. The mount has a central dome with three projecting lobes; one further lobe appears to have broken off in antiquity. Each lobe has a rivet hole with circular copper-alloy rivets still in place. The dome is damaged slightly at the apex, probably due to corrosion. The reverse of the dome is hollow and there is a copper alloy rectangular strip connecting two opposing rivets.
There is a comparable object listed in Read (2001, 16; Ref.118) for which a c. 14th-century date is suggested, as is a possible function as a book mount. There are a number of comparable objects recorded on the database, including HAMP-FDDF04 and NARC-719675. The rectangular backplate, however, is unusual.
It measures 25.6 mm in length, 20.3 mm wide, 6.4 mm thick and weighs 1.8 g.
