Unique ID: PUBLIC-DC2FF7

Object type certainty: Probably
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Early Medieval copper alloy cruciform brooch foot, 33mm long, 8mm wide, 4mm thick and weighs 6.68g. The object consists of the animal head base of the brooch which contains the catchplate. It has a roughly rectangular form and cross section and it terminates with a 'trefoil' snout with each lobe being rounded and prominent. Above this the object has a triangular cross section with the ridge running up the centre of the upper surface. This stops where the animals eyes are represented by rather rectangular protrusions. beyond this is a plain concave area before another pair of corresponding rectangular protrusions. When viewed from the side this looks very like a broken loop? The brooch is then flat and plain and has broken off just wherea raised area starts. Behind this is the cathplate which appears intact and is c20mm long.
