Medieval jetton: A copper-alloy 'Dolphin' jetton, struck in south-eastern France and dating from 1373 to 1415 (Mitchiner 1988: No. 488).

According to Mitchiner (ibid: 182), 'The dolphin ('dauphin') was [the] traditional badge of the Counts of Alban, Dauphins of Viennois'.

A jetton is a metal counter used in calculation of financial sums but not itself directly exchangeable for coins, goods or services.
