This cuff link element is circular in plan and the edge is down-turned (bevelled) at an angle of about 45° and bent in two places. The rear face is concave and has a central soldered wire attachment loop. The upper surface has been stamped from behind to form the design of clasped hands with sleeves showing, surmounted by a crown with two small hearts below. There is a pellet above each heart. The background is stippled (Lewis form 1, type C).
The surfaces are silvery grey overall and it is slightly worn at the front.
16.4mm (diameter); 2.6mm (height); 5.0mm (height including attachment loop). Weight: 0.72g.
Cufflinks and buttons with this design are considered to have originally been produced to commemorate the marriage of Charles II to Catherine of Braganza (1662), but continued to be used as a general symbol of love and/or marriage.
