A copper-alloy hooked tag, dating from the early post-Medieval period.
The artefact is intact, but the openwork plate and hanger have been bent forwards, possibly deliberately. An equal-armed cross with central pellet divides the plate into four segments, each of which has four circular perforations. A plain rim extends around the plate's circumference, with a beaded border outside this. The hanger is rectangular and the rearward hook is of trapezoidal section, tapering to a point.
Dimensions: 24.4mm long, 16.4mm wide, 1.4mm thick. Weight: 2.02g.
A similar hooked tag was found during the excavation of a moat at Southwark, with associated pottery dated from c. 1530 - c. 1550 (Egan 2005: 44/fig. 25, no. 155). A date of 16th century is suggested for this piece.
