An incomplete late Early-Medieval copper alloy stirrup-strap mount of Williams Class A Type 1, dating to the 11th Century AD. The mount is flat and sub-pentagonal in shape, with a broken loop at the apex and a small perpendicular flange at the base. The two upper edges of the pentagon are slightly convex while the other three are slightly concave. The right hand side has three projecting knops: one in the centre of the lower edge, one at the corner and one at the apex. Projections are probably missing on the other side since the mount would have been symmetrical. There are two large rivet holes near the lower edge (c.4.mm in diameter), one of which retains a fragment of an iron rivet.

The front face of the mount would most likely have been decorated with an incised zoomorphic design, however only a very faint outline of straight grooves is discernible. The reverse is plain and has traces of iron staining near the bottom. The metal has a brown patina. The stirrup-strap mount is 42.2mm tall, 31.3 mm wide and 7.0mm thick. It weighs 23.58g.

Similar mounts are illustrated in Williams (1997: 27) fig.19 with examples of the design this mount might have had.
