CLOTH SEAL

Unique ID: SOM-853DBC

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Post Medieval lead alloy two-disc type cloth seal. Only half of one disc remains with the central rivet which would have attached it to the other disc. the other half of the disc, the second disc and the connecting strip are missing to old breaks. The back of the remaining disc is probably plain, a few scratches appear accidental rather than letters or numbering. The end of the rivet shows part of the stamped design possibly of lozenges or a W within a ropework border. It is now 25.0mm by 18.2mm, 3.6mm thick and it weighs 8.24 grams

This may be the remains of a privy mark used by a weaver, dyer or searcher. Without more detail it is hard to date but the general style suggests it may be post medieval.
