Copper alloy brooch fragment. Cast mid bow and foot from a bow-and-fantail trumpet brooch variant, Mackreth type TR 4.1bx. An oval mid bow boss has a sunken circular panel with a round cell set centrally; neither now retain enamel. A triangular fantail foot bears a stepped border and a central rhomboid or teardrop shaped figure flanked by deep grooves, again perhaps intended for but not now retaining enamel. The stub of a catch plate lies behind the base of the fantail. The type is common in Nottinghamshire, and is related to East Anglian forms of brooch. Suggested date: Early Roman, 90-160.
