Medieval cast copper alloy single looped buckle frame of sub-triangular form with rounded edges and a largely flat surface on the back. The centre of the outer edge projects forwards; one side of this projection is concave, the other convex and the sides flare outwards terminating in small knops and a slightly angled straight front edge. A lateral groove acts as a pin rest on the front face. The strap bar is narrowed and offset. The surface is abraded, corroded and has a mid-brown mottled finish with concretions and traces of gilding remaining. Whitehead Buckles 1250-1800 has similar examples which he dates from 1250-1400 (See Page 24 Nos 111, 114). Dimensions are Length 18.79 mm, width 29.32 mm and 2.31 mm thick. It weighs 2.70 grammes. Other examples on the PAS database are: BH-44BFC3, SWYOR-DE7E81, BERK-5A3601.
