A complete and misshapen post-Medieval lead cap for measuring a charge of gunpowder (c. 1600-c. 1700). Courtney 1988: 2, fig. 3).
The open and closed ends were oval but are now misshapen. It is trapezoidal in side view. The sides flare from the closed end towards the rim. It has a loop at each of the shorter sides. Above one of the loops and closer to the rim is a cut 'window'. It is unclear why this aperture has been made. There is a casting seam on each longer side and one has a casting sprue scar.
This measure is grey with patches of a buff patina.
Height: 15.9mm; width: 26.4mm; thickness: 21.5mm. Weight: 13.04g.
Compare with IOW-2284E6 and IOW-ED18E4 which have cut 'windows'.
