FINGER RING

Unique ID: BH-5C4EAE

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A gold or silver-gilt posy ring comprising a D-sectioned band with plain exterior, the internal surface inscribed in lower case script: 'Love for ever'. A single crack extends across the band, and the centre of the outer surface exhibits some signs of wear.

Diameter: 23.8mm; band height: 6.2mm; band thickness: 2.1mm. Weight: 6.2g.

No parallel could be found the inscription on this ring; however, the general style, with a plain, broad hoop and the style of the script are indicative of a 17th to early 18th century date. For a ring of similar style, see TAR 2003: 131, no. 272.

Notes:

This find qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 in terms of both age and precious metal content.

Inscription: 'Love for ever'
