An incomplete post-medieval (1550-1650) copper alloy double oval buckle frame with moulded decoration on the frame at either end of the bar, and missing most of one of the loops (worn, old breaks). A copper alloy pin D-shaped in cross-section loosely encircles the bar, narrowing to a hooked point at the end. Much of the original patina is missing, although there may be decoration in the form of diagonal grooves around the edge of the frame.
The buckle measures 24.2mm in incomplete length, 27.5mm in width and weighs 3.82g. The internal dimensions of the surviving loop is 12.7x20.5mm.
Notes:
Whitehead (1996, 61ff.) suggests a date c.1550-1650 for similar double oval buckle frames.
