An Early Medieval copper alloy pin probably dating from the 9th century. The head is polyhedral, taking the form of a cube with the corners cut off to produce thirteen faces. The four main faces have a single ring-and-dot motif as decoration. The top is flat and undecorated. The pin head is 8.12mm long and measures 6.13mm x 4.11mm.
The shaft is probably incomplete. It is 23.05mm in length, 2.37mm in diameter and circular in section, is slightly bent and gently tapers down to the old, worn break. The pin has a smooth brown-green patina. The whole pin is 31.17mm long and weighs 1.86g.
Polyhedral-headed pins with ring-and-dot decoration are a common find from Middle-Saxon England, and have been placed in a typology of collared pins by Haldenby (2012) where he argues for a 9th century date.
