Copper alloy strap loop. Cast D shaped loop with a thick integrally cast and tapered pin of length 4.7mm projecting externally from its straight side. The curving part of the loop is broadened with moulded and incised anthropomorphic decoration which skilfully represents a face under either long donkey ears, or a tall hat, or both, with prominent nose, deeply defined eyes and smiling mouth. This elaboration is an unusual addition to a common object class. Suggested date: Late Medieval, 1350-1400.
