A complete Roman copper alloy finger ring with blue glass inset. The bezel is the widest point and continues seamlessly into the wide shoulders (10.5mms) which taper evenly to a thin hoop around half way down the sides (min W.: 2.8mm). The shoulders are bent but there appears to have been a distinct carination flanking the bezel. The hoop is ribbon like in form, thin and flat internally and externally and is split across a third of the way along, the remaining part is folded back under itself. On the bezel is a raised oval box with the top edge bent inwards to hold a lozenge shaped piece of translucent pale blue glass. The glass inset has a raised pellet at each corner (one broken off) and one in the center. The inset measures 11.6mms by 7.8mms. The entire ring is 18.5mm long, 10.2mm wide and 12.0mm thick; it weighs 2.58 grams.
The form of the finger-ring is probably of Henig type XI rather than type V given the possible carination at the shoulder, Guiraud Type 2h, dating to the 3rd century AD.
