Post Medieval (16th century) clasp: The clasp is a sub trapezoid with a zigzag terminal with flared corners. The opposite edge has a narrow short blunt hook which is curled towards the reverse of the clasp. This terminal has two transverse ribs as decoration. The class is decorated with a trefoil openwork in the centre. There are four rivet holes, two long each edge. The surface of the clasp is abraded and is a matte brown colour. The clasp measures 32.18mm long, 25.86mm wide, 6.52mm thick at the hook, 4.28g.

Read (2008) illustrates similar clasps, Nos. 705 to 707, but No. 706 in particular which are dated to c. 1500 to 1550. These are classed as Class G, Type 1 and described as book clasps due to their wide hook element. The recorded example has a hook which is narrower than these, but not as narrow as No. 707. The recorded example may be a book clasp, or a type of dress fitting. The recorded example may be dated to the 16th century.
