Post Medieval copper alloy looped pendant mount probably of late 16th or early 17th century date
The mount is near-complete and has a separate annular ring suspended from the loop (with an overall length of 35.8mm, a thickness of 1.2mm and a weight of 2.8g). The upper edge (with a width of 12.1mm) bifurcates slightly and appears to be heavily worn. The sides are straight and convergent to loop at the base. The mount was secured using two iron pins placed off-cenre, the corroded remains of which remain in place. The loop (with a depth of 8.6mm) has a small opening at the rear and is of D-shaped section with straight sides (4.9mm wide). The sub-circular annular ring is worn and corroded (11.3mm diameter) and of oval section (0.9mm - 2.3mm wide and 1.4mm thick). The surface of both parts is worn and pitted with a red brown corrosion.
Pendant mounts are believed to have attached swords to a belt (Margesson, 1993, p 38) and this example can be closely paralleled with two examples from Norwich (ibid, nos. 257-8) from 17th century contexts.
