A complete post-Medieval copper-alloy double-looped buckle (c. 1500-c. 1650).


The frame is convex at the front and flat at the rear. Each loop is oval in plan and similar in size. The narrowed central bar is sub-triangular in cross-section, flat at the rear, and has a small projection at each end.

The tapering pin is 'D'-shaped in cross-section, flat at the rear.

The frame and pin are corroded and pitted green in colour.

Frame: length: 38.4mm; width: 26.5mm; thickness: 2.4mm.

Pin: length: 20.9mm; width at loop: 4.3mm.

Overall weight: 8.07g.

Similar buckles have been published and dated c. 1500-1650 AD (Whitehead 2003: 54).
