A copper alloy Roman nail cleaner probably of Crummy Type 2a and dating from AD 43 - 150. The nail cleaner has a large circular suspension loop in the same plane as the blade. Wear has thinned this loop at the top. A transverse moulded bar collar separates the loop from the blade. The blade is leaf shaped with convex shoulders and then concave sides tapering to the tip which is missing. The front of the blade is marked with a central longitudinal groove. The break is worn and patinated. The nail cleaner is rectangular in section and has a dark grey patina. It is 42.7mm long, 13.1mm wide and 4.2mm thick. 6.66g.
