A complete undecorated copper alloy probable finger ring of probable Roman date, AD 43 - 410. The finger ring is plain. It has a smooth hoop without a bezel. It is D shaped in section with a slightly convex inner face, and fairly angled outer face. The patina is a well developed blue green but has suffered pitting. The ring is slightly thinner on one face. The internal diameter is 19.5mm. The ring is 29.2mm diameter, the band is 7.5mm wide and the hoop is 5.4mm thick, only 4.4mm thick where it is more worn. 12.4g.
Plain finger rings of this style can be hard to date accurately but are usually assigned to either the Roman or Post Medieval periods. Compare WMID-4C0667 and YORYM-09F2B6. This example is probably Roman because of the well developed patina.
