Incomplete Roman copper alloy plate brooch of Umbonate or Domed boss type, Mackreth 2011, British type 6.d (see plate 108, no.11180), hinge of the copper alloy pin contained within twin lugs on the reverse of the broken perforated upper lobe, one of eight lobes projecting from the grooved outer flange, all worn and corroded, at least three with traces of ring-and-dot, lobe at base with broken catchplate on reverse. Boss with central dot within ten small inward pointing radiating triangular cells alternately containing red and blue enamel, and a further, outer concentric band of fourteen inward pointing triangular cells containing blue enamel. Diameter (excluding lobes) 24mm. Extant length from lug to lug 33mm. Height of boss 6.5mm. 2nd century.
