A complete, misshapen gold finger ring, of Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval dating (AD 1400 to AD 1600).
The finger ring would have originally been circular, but is now a flattened oval. The hoop has a D shaped cross section, with the internal surface flat. Two inscriptions are present, one exterior and one interior, both written in capital letters. The exterior inscription is embossed, with arecessed horizontal border above and below. The exterior inscription reads"+ THO:FORTVNE:FAILL:"Double pellet stops are present between the words and the inscription starts with an cross fleury (trefoil ends) with an open centre. The interior inscription has been engraved and is upside down compared to the exterior inscription. It reads "LET+LOVE+PREVAVL", with saltire stops.No maker's marks are present.
The finger ring now measures 19.00 mm in length, 10.1 mm wide and 2.5 mm thick. The hoop is 0.8 mm thick.It weighs 1.1 g.
The finger ring is a mid yellow colour.
The style of the inscription is more suggestive of a Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval dating.

As the finger ring could not be confirmed as dating to over 300 years old, the item as been disclaimed as Treasure.
