An incomplete cast copper-alloy Early-Medieval/Anglo-Saxon strap end of Thomas Class A. Only the attachment end and part of the plate survive, the remainder of the object now missing due to old breaks. The strap end is sub-oval in shape with concave sides, terminating in old breaks part way down its length. The split attachment end has a central notch, either side of which are single circular rivet holes that retain separately cast iron rivets. On the front face of the plate below the rivets is an transverse semi-circular groove with a series of four evenly spaced grooves radiating to it from the central notch of the attachment end, giving a scallop shell effect. Beneath this, the front face is split into two rectangular panels, each containing multiple sub-oval shaped indentations, the plate terminating in old breaks below the panels. This fragment measures 19.82mm in length, 13.08mm in width, 4.23mm in thickness, and 2.91g in weight.
This is an incomplete strap end of Early-Medieval date. It falls into Thomas' (2003) Class A strap ends, although the preservation makes close identification into a sub-group problematic. It is of probable c.9th century AD date.
