Flint side scraper of broad Mesolithic/Neolithic date (9000 - 2200 BC). The flint is brown in colour, with darker inclusions, and is generally opaque but translucent at the thin edges. It is a secondary flake with a small patch of cortex remaining on the distal end of the flint. It is sub-rectangular in plan and flat-elliptical in cross-section. The flint has short, sub-parallel, semi-abrupt soft hammer retouch along each side. This retouch has been carried out from the dorsal face on the left hand side of the flint but from both the dorsal and ventral faces on the right side. The proximal end shows evidence of having been snapped off. The flint is 44.4mm long x 29.6mm wide x 6.1mm thick and weighs 7.5g.
