An incomplete copper alloy zoomorphic pendant, of uncertain dating, but probably Post Medieval (AD 1500 to AD 1700).
The pendant consists of a sub oval suspension loop, with a circular hole located towards the top. This has an internal diameter of 4.7 mm. Below the suspension loop is a moulded zoomorphic figure, probably a lion. The pendant splits into two at this point, with the head curving round to the right, and the front paws curving round to the left. The left side is longer than the right. The beast has an open, semi circular mouth, with an oval nose above it. A circular pellet eye is positioned behind the nose and mouth, and the fur curls up diagonally to form an ear. Beneath the ear, grooves depict the fur and curl round the front arms, towards the paws. A probable, well worn, break is present at the end of the paws. The reverse is undecorated.
It measures 42.5 mm in length, 18.4 mm wide and 2.7 mm thick. It weighs 6.5 g.
The pendant is a mid brown colour, with an uneven surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.
