A complete copper alloy early-medieval strap end of late 9th to 10th century date in the Carolingian style. The strap end is rectangular in plan and broadly in profile, with a deep stepped bifurcation with a separate covering plate, typical of the type. The flat plate that extends from the reverse of the strap end has two extant copper alloy rivets; the depth between the top of the strap end and the attachment plate suggets a strap of some thickness, with the rivets being 4.6mm high. The main strap end element is decorated with devolved acanthus decoration. The underside of the strap end is hollow. Similar examples recorded on this database are ESS-BE9A25,SF-1E8422 andSF1872.
This has been noted as an interesting find by the recorder.
