Post medieval copper alloy toy gun of 17th - 18th century date

The gun is incomplete missing the butt and trigger guard (with a surviving length of 57.9mm and a weight of 12.8g). The barrel is of sub-oval section, with straight, faceted sides and is widest at the stock (at 6.8mm and 5.3mm x 6.8mm at the end of the barrel). The corrosion has closed barrel, making it difficult to determine the bore. The vent is small and is also closed by corrosion with a rounded wedge beneath the pan, which may have served as a hold for the match (Egan & Forsyth 2005, 89). Possibly Egan and Forsyth's Type 2 dated to 1600-1640 (Egan and Forsyth, 2005, pp 92) . There is no decoration now discernible on the gun. The surface is heavily-corroded and has largely been stripped to the red-brown metal.
