An incomplete finger ring of Medieval to Post-Medieval date. Treasure case 2015 T162.

Description: Two fragments from a silver finger ring probably dating to the 12th century. In its current state the ring is incomplete. The larger fragment is made up of portions of the hoop and the bezel. The bezel is integral and is slightly convex. Although bent out of shape the convex shape seems to have been intentional. The bezel is decorated with a series of horizontal incised lines. One of the shoulders is bent and twisted around the underside of the bezel. The other shoulder is flattened and sretains diagonal incised decoration filled with vertical incised lines. The smaller fragment is plain. The inside of the hoop is plain.

Dimensions:

Large Fragment: length 30mm, width at bezel 10mm.

Small fragment: length 10mm, width 5mm

The precious metal content fulfils the requirements of the Treasure Act in that it is greater than 10%.
