A complete lead or lead alloy unifaced token of Late Medieval to Early Post Medieval dating (AD 1400 to AD 1800).
The token is sub-oval. The obverse depicts a possible segmented design or tree design consisting of a central vertical raised line, with two diagonal raised lines, angled upwards and either side of the central line. Surrounded by a raised circular border (Powell Type17 or 3). The reverse has a possible raised circular border with an illegible design in the centre.
The token has a diameter of 18.7 mm and is 3.4 mm thick. It weighs 4.8 g.
The token is a mid grey in colour with an even patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail.
Lead tokens are a frequently occurring find, with a variety of different designs. Tokens like this, were used as tallies or as replacement low denomination coinage during the Medieval and Post Medieval periods.
