Incomplete Early Saxon copper alloy Cruciform brooch, side knobs missing. Integral top knob waisted but otherwise featureless, twisted very narrow headplate with damaged edges. The flattened D-sectioned bow widens slightly towards its mid-point before narrowing to the base. It has a rectangular panel forming facets at its top and base. The latter has a pair of transverse grooves above faceted edges. The footplate begins with a panel with faceted edges above twin transverse grooves and an elongated and largely featureless animal-head with pointed terminal and a thickening suggestive of the eyes. On the reverse the pin lug is partly obscured by corroded remains of the iron spring. The partly enclosed catchplate runs almost the full length of the footplate. Length (unbent) 70.5mm. Width of headplate 7.5mm. Weight 7.54g. Åberg 1926 Group I. c.450 - c.480.
