Incomplete medieval copper alloy buckle, with the outside edge of the frame in the form of the crowned head of a king, cast but with features enhanced by engraving (length 28mm, width 23mm). The sides widen at their junction with the outside edge into shield-like mouldings, both with two crudely engraved chevrons. Scrap of distorted sheet plate survives, folded widthways and broken across the perforation for the missing pin (extant length 9mm, extant width 18mm). Gilmore's Head and Shoulders type (http://finds.org.uk/blogs/westmidlands/2011/01/06/kings-head-strap-clasps-or-buckles/). 14th century.
