A late Iron Age gold quarter-stater attributed to the Corieltavi. This type of coin is known as a 'scyphate'.
Obverse: abstract boar right
Reverse: large reversed 'S' with pellet in ring terminals, five pointed star with pellet centre to left and right, crescents above and below.
The coin is flatter than most scyphates, which are usually dished. It is unclear whether this is an original feature or due to post-depositional factors.
This coin is probably a variant of ABC 1770/Hobbs 3178ff.
