PLATE BROOCH

Unique ID: HAMP1575

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

Cast copper-alloy composite plate brooch consisting of four conjoined discs with lozenge at centre. There is a copper-alloy pellet at the centre of each of the five cells forming a recess for enamel. The lozenge cell is infilled with red enamel, all of which survives. Two opposing circular cells contain blue enamel. The enamel in the other two opposing cells does not survive, but traces suggest it to be bright turquoise. Single, pierced lug on reverse for hinge, pin missing, iron axis bar in hinge. Short catchplate, edges damaged. Traces of white metal coating on raised borders on upper surface.
