BROOCH

Unique ID: HAMP-2A0EC5

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

Copper alloy Roman Colchester one-piece brooch. The short flat wings are now almost entirely missing, extending on either side of the bow for c. 4mm. From the centre at the top of the reverse of the wings there is a rectangular projection which extends back from the wings then up and forward, being re-attached to the head of the brooch forming a forward loop at the back of the wings. Through this loop there is the remains of the external chord (Length: 19.5. Width: 2.8mm), although the pin is missing as is much of the heavily corroded spring. The circular-sectioned bow is narrow, gently angled and tapers to a point at the foot (width: 5.5-1mm). The bow is now heavily worn and there is no evidence of decoration. The catchplate are missing.
