This ring is c15mm in external diameter and c6mm in internal diameter. One half of the hoop of this ring is extened with an oval cross-section and has a width of 7mm the other half is not and has a width of 2mm. The extended half of the ring is decorated with four petal-like mouldings on both faces and traces of gilding can also be seen.
Although no parallel could be found for this ring it is likely to have had a decorative function, hanging from the thinner half of the hoop from a strap, perhaps a harness strap. It is also most likely to be medieval in date. 2004-06-25 16:09:342011-02-24 12:19:48412004-03-011Certain1112900140DC402E01E8E7SFCopper alloy10627MEDIEVALMDx14221p0gjgrsxwzxMetal detectorCircaCirca6903015934153361550841425Restricted AccessTM2945TM24NESutton81030686SUT026SF-C3EB88.jpg158796RingSuffolk County Council Archaeology Service5images/fminter/EasternCharacter undeterminedCultivated landEuropean RegionCountySuffolkDistrictSuffolk CoastalCivil Parish52.07041.36406Restricted AccessReturned to finder97660
