Copper alloy bow brooch. Dolphin brooch. Incomplete. One wing, head and part of bow only. The remaining wing is long and cylindrical, housing the axis bar for a hinged pin (head only remains). The front of the wing is decorated with two grooves at the distal end. The head rises up from the wings before dropping down to from the bow. What remains of the c-sectioned bow is narrowed slightly from the head. At the top it has in-curving sides which form a curved ridge at each side of the bow front. Below this the bow widens out to encompass a downwards pointing triangular recess containing orange enamel. There is an incised line frame around the recess. The sides of the bow are then slightly in-curving again above the break. The back of the bow is deeply hollowed. Date: Roman - AD 1st century
