Incomplete Roman bone pin. This pin has a conical head, beneath which are two transverse grooves. The cone has been damaged and now a groove runs through it. Given that the groove is smooth and patinated like the rest of the pin, this damage probably occurred in antiquity. The shaft is circular in section and tapers, though the lower portion and point are now missing. The break on the shaft is horizontal, worn smooth and patinated like the rest of the pin, suggesting it occurred in antiquity. The surface of the pin is abraded and dull, suggesting the original surface is missing. It is creamy white in colour. It has a surviving length of 38.16mm, a maximum shaft diameter of 6.56mm and weighs 1.55g. Pins of this type were in use in the 1st and 2nd centuries. Examples can be seen in Crummy 1983, page 21, figure 18, note in particular number 177.
