A silver Post Medieval coin; a Venetian Soldino of Doge Leonardo Loredano (AD 1501 - 1521). The coin has been crudely pierced leaving a rectangular hole punched from the obverse. The hole avoids both the figure of Christ and the legend on the reverse, but obliterates the figure of St Mark on the obverse. The hole does not appear to be for suspension as neither face would hang in the correct orientation. The act of punching the hole has pushed the displaced metal to the back of the coin where it sticks out, so it does not seem to have been nailed to a larger object. The coin has a diameter of 12.3mm diameter, 0.4mm thick. 0.25g.
